Miramar Tree Service trims hedges and shrubs that have grown past their bounds. In South Florida, ficus hedges and shrubs push growth so fast in the wet season that a clean hedge in May is a wall of jungle by September. We cut them back into shape and keep them from taking over the yard, the fence, or the view.
Ficus hedges are the big one here. They make a great privacy screen, but they grow aggressively, and if you let them go they block light, crack walls, and lift pavement. We trim them back hard enough to restore the shape and the sight line, without butchering them so badly they thin out. A hedge that is cut right stays full and dense, and we know exactly how much to take off to keep it that way.
We also shape shrubs around the house. Foundation plantings, accent shrubs, and the bushes along the walkway all need regular clipping to stay neat and to keep branches off the siding, the windows, and the air conditioning units. Overgrown shrubs hold moisture against the house and give pests a path in, so keeping them trimmed is more than cosmetic. It protects the home.
Fence line clearing is part of this work. When hedges and shrubs grow across the property line into the neighbor's yard or out into the street, we trim them back to the line. That is selective work, taking out the overgrowth and leaving a clean edge, so you get your property line back without ripping out the whole hedge. We do it neatly so it looks intentional.
How we trim depends on the height and the access. Short hedges we do with hand shears and a powered hedge trimmer. Tall ficus hedges that have grown past reach need a ladder or a lift. Either way, we clean up and haul off every clipping when we are done. Hedge trimmings are bulky, and that cleanup is included on every job.
Timing matters with hedges in South Florida. The wet season is when they grow the fastest, so a trim right before the rainy months buys you the most time before they grow back. We can also set up a regular cycle for properties that need it, coming back on a schedule so the hedge never gets out of hand again. A maintained hedge is cheaper to keep up than one we have to cut back from a jungle state.
We trim hedges to the right shape for the species. Ficus we cut flat on top and sides, because that is how it grows back dense. Other hedges we shape to a natural form, rounding the top so it does not collect wind and rain. The shape matters because a flat topped hedge in a storm holds water and wind, while a rounded one sheds both. We know what each species wants, and we cut accordingly, not just the same haircut on every hedge.
