Miramar Tree Service installs tree cabling and bracing for trees worth saving that have a structural weakness. A big live oak with a wide spreading canopy often grows with a weak union where two main limbs meet, or a split that is starting to open. Instead of taking the whole tree down, we support it so it stays standing through storm season.

Cabling is the main tool. We install high strength steel cables high in the canopy, between two limbs, to limit how far they can spread in the wind. That takes the load off the weak union and keeps the limbs from splitting apart in a storm. Done right, the cable is barely visible from the ground and the tree keeps its natural look.

Bracing is for splits and cracks. When a trunk or a main limb has started to split, we drill through both sides and install a steel rod to hold it together. That is heavier work than a cable, and it is usually paired with cabling above to control the movement that caused the split in the first place. The combination of cable and brace is what holds a damaged tree together through wind.

This work matters a lot in South Florida. A weak union that holds fine in calm weather can split wide open in a hurricane, and a split limb comes down on whatever is under it. If you have a big shade tree over your house with a visible crack or a tight V shaped fork, getting it cabled before storm season is a lot cheaper than removing the tree or repairing a roof. The cable is a small investment that protects a big one.

Cabling and bracing are not a fix for a tree that is rotten or dying. If the weakness is decay inside the trunk, support hardware will not save it, and the tree needs to come down. We give you an honest read on that. If the tree is sound and just has a weak structure, we cable it. If it is failing, we tell you. We are not going to sell you hardware for a tree that is on its way out.

The hardware we use is built to last. We use steel cable and forged hardware rated for the loads a big limb can generate in a storm, and we install it so it does not girdle the tree as it grows. A cable installed wrong can choke the limb it is supposed to protect, so the install matters as much as the cable itself. We have done enough of these to know where to place them and how to set them.

Cables do not last forever, and they need to be checked. We recommend an inspection every few years to make sure the hardware is sound, the cable is tight, and the tree has not grown over the hardware. A cable that the tree has grown around is a cable that is not doing its job, and it needs to be reset. We can do that inspection and reset as part of a regular maintenance plan, so the support keeps supporting.

If you have a tree with a split, a crack, or a weak fork you are worried about, call us or request a free quote. We come out, look at the tree, and tell you whether cabling is the right call or whether it needs to come down.
